Words and images have been used to communicate for thousands of years. Written language and imagery expanded the world and filled it with stories and information able to span tribes, cities, oceans, and time. While the styles developed differently all over the world displaying a wide variety of diversity. To this day, we are still experimenting: from comic books, to graffiti, multi-media works, advertising, word-based artists and many more, we are still exploring and finding new modes to communicate…

    ABOUT THE JUROR

Dan Wood is an artist and printer living in Providence, Rhode Island. After a brief stint studying history at McGill University, he received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1994, where he is now a Senior Critic in printmaking.

He has continued his education in printing ever since, learning the craft of offset lithographic and letterpress printing in commercial print shops from Washington, D.C. to Providence, Rhode Island. He established Garbaszawa Press in 1994, and re-inaugurated it as DWRI Letterpress in 2002, working collaboratively with other artists, designers, local businesses, non-profits, and others looking for fine letterpress printing.

He is currently an Art and City Life Commissioner for the City of Providence, and his work can be found in private and public collections, including The New York Public Library, The RISD Museum, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Wheaton College, and the Museum of Printing in Haverhill, Mass, among others.

A strong believer in the community building element of art making, he has spent much of the last two years casting type documenting our strange times via The Linotype Daily.
